John W. Price Award Given to Cosmo Resident

At the 16th Annual International Dinner and Performance Event on April 11, 1999, the John W. Price Award was presented to Rebecca Mladic, a current resident of the Cosmo house. This award is given each year, by the University YMCA, to a student who has shown exemplary efforts to foster international student relations on the U of I campus.

Becky has participated in and helped organize many recent events at the Cosmopolitan Club, including the Egyptian and Costa Rican dinners, the Thanksgiving Benefit Dinner, and many coffee hours and parties.

Through the Office of International Student Affairs (OISA), she has helped international students with orientation and has provided them with transportation from the airport to hotels and dorms upon their arrival in Champaign. She has helped them find housing and has served as a general resource. She has played a major role in international student events on campus, such as the Lunar New Year celebration and was co-master of ceremonies for the 16th Annual International Dinner and Performance Night.

Becky has taken international students home with her (i.e., to visit her parents' home) on weekends, has driven them to the outlet stores in Tuscola for weekend shopping, and has generally made herself available with many kinds of assistance.

Becky is a graduate student in English as an International Language. She is multilingual and is thoroughly immersed in the campus international scene.

Her Cosmo friends know her as a friendly and outgoing (and diplomatic!) woman who gives generously of her time and energies to those who come to our university and community from foreign lands. These traits, as well as her sincerity and genuineness, make us proud of her. We are pleased that she has been honored.
