Ode to a Corn Sheaf

by Anand Ranganathan

Behold her, single in the field,
O solitary corn sheaf,
Swinging and swaying by herself,
In this autumn, oh so brief.

Surrounded she may be
By million others, just like her,
Yet different she is
Like champaign in a sea of ordinary liqueur.

Gently she moves
Lost in her own individuality,
Living in the moment
Unconcerned of any eventuality.

The eyes scan through multitudes
Of furrows, fields and farms,
They always come to rest on her
Captivated by her seductive charms.

Resplendent she basks
In her golden gown,
Shimmering in the sun,
Glimmering like a regal crown.

The wind caresses her ears,
As she dances to the tunes of time,
My heart stops still as she sears
Her image on it, oh so sublime.
