Journey

by Jun Yan

"Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

By Robert Frost

I did not take the road well traveled and worn; I took a faint roadway filled with twists and bends. It took me to the Cosmopolitan house and led me down a more exciting journey. I cherished the people and events along my path and will remember the sights and experiences of Cosmo house for a lifetime. Most importantly I never regretted taking the path less traveled.

Recently I join AFROTC to open up a new chapter in my life. It follows along my goal to always take the path less traveled and this is definitely a path with few travelers indeed. It is amazing how one simple decision could have such a profound change on the future. Instead of working in a civilian job around Chicago, I will be traveling around the world and seeing places I would never have dreamed of. There will be opportunities to work in the wilds of Alaska or in the hustle and bustles of Tokyo. The world has just become my backyard, where anywhere is possible and just a flight away.

It also made me value my multi-cultural experience here at the Cosmo house. I anticipate traveling to many different nations in the future. At each destination the language barrier and cultural variation provides a difficult setting for any foreigner. Misunderstandings are frequent and patience may run thin. However my time here at Cosmo house has taught me to respect other cultures and demonstrated that difference among nations should be enjoyed instead of feared. I have to admit it will be an interesting journey ahead of me but it is a journey that I am eager to face due to the experience I gained from staying here, at Cosmopolitan House.
