Over the past few years, I have always enjoyed the parties at the Cosmopolitan House. Each one is unique and full of unforgettable memories. Well, I have an uncountable number of stories that I would love to share with you but maybe next time... or better yet, you can buy my book if I decide to write one about my years living in the Cosmo House.
A quick introduction is always good, don't you think? I am from Peru, and am currently a doctoral candidate in Electrical Engineering at the UIUC. I think that is enough. I am pretty sure we all have our "first time" in everything, right? Well, my first time ever participating in a Halloween party was here at the Cosmo House back in 1993. The party was extraordinary. At that time, I didn't dare wear a costume, because this is something we just don't do in Peru. Halloween is a concept related to children going from door to door and asking for candies, period. Things might have changed in the last few years, but that is what I remember since I was a child.

This year was my second time of organizing the Halloween party at the House. I enjoy doing this. Actually, I enjoy doing all kinds of parties! This year's party was the "coolest" to me. People came in costumes that were so funny and very creative. By popular demand, this year's best costume prize was awarded to a "toilet." Guess what I turned out to be for this year's party? Umm... a "pimp," and two of my friends (Mike Palac and Arjan van Dijk) were the elements that a pimp needs. Convincing them to do it was more difficult than doing the party itself. They didn't make any money but we all had a blast! Next time, if you happen to be around the Champaign area for Halloween, stop by the House. I guarantee that you will have more than one jubilous moment. Special thanks goes to the Cosmo Club for sponsoring the party, along with OISA and IEI, to Johnny Nahui, a friend from Peru, and to my missing piece: Kazumi Ohira for helping me out with the party.
