Cosmo Connections, November 1998

Alumni Report, November 1998

by Mary A. Hussey

Dear Cosmo Alumni Friends,

It's difficult to believe that the fall semester and academic year 1998-99 is almost half way through its course. As usual, Cosmo has already had some very unusual, interesting, and enjoyable dinner programs and coffee hour entertainments. Outstanding was an evening of Bulgarian dance and music, of which the Illini Folk Dance group were co-sponsors. It all made for a hilarious program, leading one Cosmo member to comment, "It seems that no matter what group is performing, no matter who the guest entertainers are, or what occasion, everybody present has a good time." If you could attend some of these events you would see what I mean and would agree.

And why don't you come and join us on some of these occasions (every other Sunday evening at the dinner hour, and every Thursday evening at the coffee hour)? Your presence is all we need to make our programs perfect.

Recently we have had some interesting letters from alums in California and Israel. In fact, the Californian was here in person. Please remember that we are always delighted to hear from you, and to greet you if you come to visit us. Better than a letter would be some photos of you and your family, but best if all would be a visit. Most of the communications that we receive from alums are from members of classes in the early '40s, so you please continue to keep in touch, and all of the others please also let us know your news, good or bad.

I can report some very much-needed and much appreciated improvements in the house: two new stoves! As you may know, several of our residents cook their meals in our kitchen and for some time we have needed well-functioning stoves. It is very pleasant and homelike to visit the house in the early evening and see, hear, smell, and feel signs of preparation for a meal.

Well! Winter signs aplenty are upon us. Cold temperatures, a few flakes of snow, denuded trees, winter wraps, winterizing of cars. However, there are still many leaves on the trees in U-C, but many bags of leaves have already been sent to their final resting place, wherever that is.

So, if you can't come to visit us, why not send--along with a letter--some photographs?

Have a good winter, wherever you are; we will be thinking of you. So, until May 1999, so long, hasta luego, au revoir, etc.--whatever your language may be.
