Things that I Love about Living at Cosmopolitan Club

by Rakesh Kumar (from Ghotki, Pakistan)

When I first walked into the Cosmo House, the first thing that possessed my attention was the huge banner with Cosmo’s motto on it, “Above All Nations is Humanity.” It is a very vague and cliched thing to say I believe but if you see it on daily or at least weekly basis on Coffee Hours, a realization dawns upon you about the nature of how powerful an argument like that could be, if absorbed and realized by people of this world.

Cosmo is a synonym for diversity, where you have people from not only all continents of the world (except Australia/Oceania) but also from all disciplines of Science/Art, speaking all kinds of languages and possessing all kinds of personas. Every person provides a lesson, and no wonder sometimes one feels inundated with information, but I love the state of being filled with all the information that comes out of all these minds.

Mohit – being the Mathematician he is – quizzes you on enlightening puzzles, Daniela talks about how her baby (little Alex) is not dumb and tries to scientifically prove it, albeit with futility. Inaki pretends to be the mean guy who knows it all, Wanju talks about how she loves cooking baked tofu, Elena demonstrates the power of organizational structure, Susan’s infinite inquisitiveness amuses you constantly, Yuan’s second-thoughts make you re-think your stance on an issue. Marina motivates you to jump out of a plane from 13,000 feet, and Megean remains the silent ubiquitous ghost who loves Insomnia Cookies. J And all this, constantly makes me want to pat my back for deciding to live at Cosmo for I think it is an experience of a life-time for me.
