Many people who know about the Cosmopolitan Club (a.k.a., Cosmo) praise the friendly atmosphere with the diversity that Cosmo provides throughout several programs such as the Coffee Hour on every Thursday and the Sunday Dinner every month. Many students who participate, get to experience the new cultures by those programs. Moreover, especially residents in the Cosmopolitan House easily get to have opportunities to broaden their knowledge and mind by learning about and understanding different cultures. Many students comment that they envy the residents and would like to live in the house as well. In addition, there is a lovely Steinway grand piano, which everyone can enjoy, in the house. However, a splendid experience and opportunities from the diversity are not the only advantages that residents can obtain. The residents as well as other students can also grow by taking a leadership role (without a title) in the house. Whether or not they realize it, each resident is a representative from his/her country. Especially during the coffee hour, the residents would often meet people from other countries and will have a chance to inform about and describe issues or their cultures of origins. When they are doing this, they are actually acting on behalf of their country. Discussing the similarities and differences, their understandings will expand, and students also may get to find solutions for disputes among countries. Therefore, the Cosmo house is truly a great place not only to live but also to “cultivate social and intellectual relationships among persons of different nations through a variety of activities and services”
