The Korean Students Association (KSA) organized a coffee hour for Cosmopolitan Club on September 2nd. Our program was to let people know more about Korean culture. So we decided to serve various Korean traditional foods, to do a presentation about Korean culture, and to play some Korean traditional instruments. We got food donations from all the Korean restaurants that are on campus. Everyone that came loved the food. Most of the people were new to Korean food, but the majority said they liked it and a lot of people came back for second dishes. After the dinner, KSA presented Samoolnori. This is the name of the Korean traditional music performance. We had practiced a lot and were well prepared. The performance went great. People wanted to play the instruments after our performance. We taught the basics to the people who were interested in it. After Samoolnori, KSA had a presentation about Korean culture. We presented information about the customs and common culture of Korea; for example, what kind of food people eat, what it's made of, and how it's made. But we also discussed the importance of age, because respecting the elders is one of the basics of Korean culture. Also, we showed some clips from the 2002 World Cup. I would not say that preparing for this event was easy, but I definitely can say that it was fun. I was happy to show all those people what Korea is like and was excited when people kept on asking me about Korea. I hope we can do more events to show students more about Korea.
