"East is east and west is west, and ne'er the twain shall meet" is no longer true. In fact, the opposite is the case, especially at the Cosmo House at 307 E. John St. in Champaign, as we attempt to build and strengthen bridges among people of diverse nationalities, races, cultures, and religions. All who participate in the work of the Cosmo Club are helping to foster understanding, peace, and progress throughout the world. So, perhaps our other motto can be: "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!" This semester our activities have included dinners presented by the Turkish Student Association, Philippine Student Association, Hellenic Student Association, and Persian Cultural Association. In addition, there were coffee hours that highlighted the cultures of Croatia, Germany, Bulgaria, Peru, Persia, Korea, Brazilian, the Netherlands, China, Ecuador, Singapore, and Colombia. Quite a mix for any house! If you're already a member of the Cosmo Club, you're helping to support these and other activities. If you're not a member, you might consider joining in order to foster these activities that bring together individuals from many countries. Membership is $20 per year for non-students and $10 for students. In addition, please consider volunteering your time for fundraising activities, for planning and participating in trips with international students to places of interest in Illinois. If you're part of an international group you may wish to organize to organize and host a coffee hour or dinner in the future. If you wonder whether to join the Club or not, please attend one of the coffee hours at which you can become acquainted with the club and some of its many interesting members, guests, and visitors from various cultures and backgrounds. Help us proclaim, "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!" |
