During this past year, Cosmo has been the site of many wonderful events. International Dinners, Coffee Hours, Receptions, and Parties were presented with creativity, enthusiasm and energy. International students continue to view Cosmo as a "home away from home" and enjoy the relaxed and open atmosphere at the house. Lovetta Blanke made possible our new state-of-the-art sound system in the media room through a generous charitable donation. This sure is a far cry from the old 78 rpm records that we used to play when I was young! This sound system has been a great addition to all our events. With the new system, we can plug in a laptop computer and play music off the Internet, as well as listening to tapes and CDs. Those who present after dinners and during coffee hours can add sound to their PowerPoint presentations, so that they can coordinate background music with the images projected. We continue to maintain the house with minor repairs and upgrades as
needed. This summer we did some repainting and repairing of floors. Julio Urbina, our former house-manager received the Cosmo Club Service Award this past year for his exemplary contributions to the Club. (See Julio's article in this issue, My Peruvian Spirit Goes On.) The lagging economy has reduced many people's fixed income assetsbut we hope that you will feel Cosmo Club is worthy of your continued financial support through memberships and donations. We appreciate all the loyal contributors who have helped our club this year. Looking back on the year, I think we have much to be thankful for. We can feel especially grateful for all the work of the many volunteers who come together each week to present their cultures through our programming. We look forward to a prosperous 2003 and I wish you all Happy Holidays. |
